Hi, how’s it going? This blog is about setting and achieving goals. Not just ordinary goals, but extraordinary goals, Check out my current goal list here, or browse through some of the articles below.
1. Consume fruit closest to it’s original source
This means eating orange cake is worst, drinking orange juice is better, drinking freshly squeezed orange juice is a lot better, and eating an orange is best. The same goes for pretty much any fruit or vegetable (e.g. tomatoes are a lot healthier to eat than tomato sauce).
2. Start your day with fruit instead of grains/cereals
When you wake up your body has still got quite a lot of toxins running through it that it needs to get rid of. Instead of hitting your digestive system with more work to do, why not just have some fresh fruit (with unsweetened yogurt if necessary). Not only will your body find this much easier to digest, the fructose in the fruit will keep you energized without spiking your insulin levels (as long as you don’t eat too much fruit). Make sure you’re following rule 1 though, drinking processed orange juice is definitely going to put your insulin levels through the roof.
3. Continue eating vegetables and fruit throughout the day
Instead of eating grains and other carbohydrates during the day, just stick to vegetables and fruit. Your body will use the freshness of the nutrients to supply you with important enzymes you need to cleanse your body. Not only does your body have to cope with toxins from the food we eat, but also the environment we live in.
4. Consume freshly prepared vegetable or fruit juices
Don’t buy these kind of juices from the supermarket. By the time they are sitting on shop shelves they have actually lost nearly all of the nutrients that you should be getting. Ideally you should prepare fruit or vegetable juices when you are going to drink them, or if that is not convenient, at least try and prepare them on the same day you’ll consume them. And don’t have more than 2-3 of these kind of juices on any given day as they will contain quite a lot of fructose.
5. If you need to you can mix your consumption of fruit and vegetables during the day with light protein.
Eggs or nuts are great sources of protein if you need something to get you through the day. Try and avoid too much protein until early afternoon though (unless you workout in the morning).
“But I need to eat more food than just fruit and vegetables!”
Of course you do! To compensate for this under-eating you can have a much larger meal at night – your body will be ready for it. That’s right, eat as much as you want! It can be good though, to eat fresh salad vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, capsicum right before you get stuck into the main part of your meal.
With most nutritional experts telling us we need to eat 6-8 smaller meals per day to keep our metabolism in tack, you’ll probably think my advice to have a big meal at night is idiocy. But think about it, this is how humans ate food for thousands of years, and it is the hunter-gatherer lifestyle (with the big banquet at night) that I think we need to move back towards. What generation has the worse track record with obesity?
