Sugar Is Evil - 3 Facts Which Prove This!

by Elliot Wilson on June 12, 2008

I love ice cream and I love chocolate. Unfortunately both of these foods when bought commercially will contain refined sugar. It is not just these obvious foods that will include sugar in the ingredients. Almost all breakfast cereals will contain sugar as well as most sauces/mayonnaise. Next time you’re buying your groceries take a look at which

Sugar is bad. In fact sugar as we know it, is not a natural substance. Refined sugar has been robbed of all the vitamins, minerals, proteins, enzymes and other beneficial nutrients that original sugar cane or beet contains. In fact, ironically refined sugar lacks chromium which is a chemical needed for our blood sugar levels to be healthily managed (i.e. severe deficiencies in this chemical will mean our bodies could ignore how much sugar is in our blood).

There are many reasons why sugar is bad, but today I’m listing just 3 reasons why I personally try to avoid sugar as much as possible.

1. Too much sugar makes us fat
Hopefully this isn’t news to you. When we eat sugar we will almost always consume far more than our body has use for. Because our body cannot consume the extra unnecessary sugar it will then be stored as fat. Too much fat in the body will cause obesity which is known to be a leading
factor of diseases.

2. Sugar is highly addictive and after experiencing the sugar high, you’ll then have to deal with either stress or depression or both before returning back to normal.
This is because When we go on a sugar high our bodies release hormones to reduce the sugar level in our blood back to a normal level (our bodies do the same thing when we consume a lot of caffeine). Unfortunately, as these suppressive hormones have side effects in themselves (such as stress
and then lethargy). Once the cycle is complete it leaves us feeling like nothing else but more sugar. Now do you know why you experience sugar cravings so often?

The more we eat sugar the more our bodies will produce the suppressive hormones to balance out the blood sugar level. In time this can lead to too much suppressive hormones in our system so that we have to eat sugar just to feel normal.

3. Too much sugar is a leading cause of diabetes, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia and heart disease (just to name a few diseases).
For more convincing reasons on why sugar is so bad for you, check out ‘124 Ways Sugar Can Ruin Your Health’, an article found on FormerFatGuy.com. Refined sugar is a catalyst for countless physical disorders.

Conclusion: Any amount of sugar is too much sugar
I imagine (if you’re anything like me) you’ll never be able to give up sugar completely. As bad as it may be, it sure does taste good! What I would like to think however, is that you’ll at least consider eliminating sugar from your diet at home. There are plenty of substitutes for sugar for those times when you have a sweet tooth, and there are also some substantial benefits from not eating sugar (including fat loss of course).

Are there any readers out there who don’t eat sugar as a rule?

My girlfriend and I were talking about this just the other day. I had to think about it, but I dont remember actually buying a bag of sugar in my adult life. Last time was in college, just out of high school, when I was approaching my highest weight of 475 pounds.

I dont buy sugar substitutes (aspartame, sucralose, nutrasweet), nor do I even touch the stuff. I was at a conference one time in 2001 when it was shown through a blind test, that simply HOLDING artificial sweeteners lowered your energy levels.

I use stevia - a plant, and that’s it.

I avoid all sugar, and it seems that for the past 20 years, it’s been the norm for me.

Hi Rob,

Although I don’t buy artificial sweeteners (or bags of sugar for that matter), I find it very hard to completely avoid it. I don’t like to refuse eating something someone has baked specially for me… I do think if you generally avoid it as a rule your body has no problem handling that little bit every now and then.

As for stevia, it is something I’ve only just recently discovered so I’m very interested in checking it out more. Do you grow it or buy it?
