I woke up with a sore throat – just as bad as yesterday. If not worse! The amount of vitamin C I consumed yesterday was crazy – I hoped it would have gone away by now. Not the case. It was so difficult to get out of bed. Funny how one little thing can totally drag down your entire psyche…
But I still got up at 6.15 and crept through the dark to make smoothies. Did I mention that I make enough for 10 smoothies? 2 for Elliot and I, 1 for Elliot’s lunch, 1 for my father, and 6 for the rest of the tribe. But those six dilute it with milk. Still…!
So we had our smoothie for breakfast with some protein powder. Whey protein is great because it doesn’t really have much flavor and when it is added to a smoothie you can’t taste it! I also downed some grapefruit juice that was extra-laden with vitamin C and swallowed some Echinacea tablets. Go me. Go away sore throat!
I starved all morning. Just before my workout I raided the fridge and had three pickled onions and a few bits of chicken (little chunks torn off the bone). I needed a little something to give me some energy or something… Then I had my workout. After that – a long time after though – had a boiled egg, some more little bits of chicken, a tiny bit of grated cheese, an orange and an apple. That saw me through til nigh on 5pm when I ate 2 mandarins.
Dinner was a great cook up: beef, mushroom, carrot and bacon stew with rice, steamed brocolli, cauliflower and peas, a coleslaw and a cucumber, tomato and feta cheese salad. After dinner everyone else munched on Reeses but I curbed the craving by eating a banana with a bit of peanut butter instead. Go for the healthy choice!
The workout today was the toughest yet. The first round was so difficult – let alone the last. I struggled so much but got through it finally! Again it was a complete workout with extra reps thrown in for good measure. I was a bit sore from yesterday in the buttock/rear quad area but hey, no pain no gain right? I quite enjoy working out muscles that can feel yesterday’s work. There are muscles lurking somewhere!
So while I’m still feeling blue about not making any visible progress in the mirror or clothing-fitting wise… at least I’m still getting up and doing it. I got through the workout. Its almost more of a mental than a physical this week!
