Hi, how’s it going? This blog is about setting and achieving goals. Not just ordinary goals, but extraordinary goals, Check out my current goal list here, or browse through some of the articles below.
I thought I could put my weekend into one post. So sad how there are only two days in the weekend!
We moved house so I didn’t get my 1-2 mile walks in – but I think the cleaning and packing almost made up for it! I was supposed to walk on Sat and Sun but didn’t quite make it. Never mind, this week I’ll make up for it!
I’ll just post what I ate:
Sat
Breakfast was a quarter pineapple and an orange. During the day we snacked on nuts and for lunch was tomato and potato soup with a bit of cheese and a drink of soda water with a splash of grape juice.
For dinner I cheated and got two packets of Uncle Ben’s instant rice – its quite good because there doesn’t seem to be any ‘bad’ stuff in it – you just chuck it in the microwave for 2 mins and its done! We had tomato and basil, and egg fried rice. I put some cashews in with the egg fried rice and cut up some cucumber, avocado, tomato and bell pepper. It was nice and simple – oh and we had some rice crackers with. So that was all good – but then we went to a farewell where the host had made some delicious dips – a fresh hummus and a tzatziki. And with it were cut up veges and some chips. I snacked all evening! So good – but a bit naughty too. At least it wasn’t pizza.
Sunday
Breakfast was again, a quarter pineapple – thats it. We kept packing and only had a mandarin in between until about 3.30 when we sat down for some Salada crackers with chicken, an authentic Dutch mayo, gerkhins, pickled onions and cheese. So yum – but we did have a bit too much. After we finished unpacking, we made our specialty – iced coffees. One day I’ll post the recipe on here. It tastes naughty but its actually pretty healthy. Dinner on Sunday was tomato soup and bread. Nice and simple! Followed by a snack of bhuja mix and raw almonds.
We had intended to go out for lunch to an Italian restaurant for some lasagne as it was pouring with rain and we just felt like some comfort food – we were both really looking forward to it but when we got there it was closed. So disappointing! Another time though..
So yeah, my weekend wasn’t all bad. I quite enjoyed it and felt even better now that I look back and realise my diet wasn’t quite as bad as I thought!
Do you still believe these dieting myths?
The top 10 diet myths, an article posted on The Modesto Bee makes quite an interesting read.
Notable myths that I recommend considering are;
MYTH NO. 1 – Don’t eat after 8 P.M.
This killed me as an older teenager. This myth is spread all over the Internet so I would religously ignore hunger pangs late a night as I was convinced what I ate would turn straight into fat as I slept for 7 hours or so. In actual fact this was stupidiy. If you’re hungry and you’re up and moving, then eat! Never let yourself starve.
MYTH NO. 2 – Eating small, frequent meals boosts your metabolism
Small, frequent meals can actually be quite good during the day, but as humans, no matter how we try to do things differently, we are wired to want an evening ‘feast’ each day. Do you want to speed up your metabolism and burn fat more effectively? Then get more muscle on your body!
MYTH NO. 6 – Going on a diet is the best way to lose weight
Sure, sticking to quite a few of the diets out there will result in losing weight. But… as soon as you go off the diet again, the pounds pile on again. What this article adheres to (and what I agree with) is that we need to find a diet we are prepared to make our long term eating habit. That way, whatever flab we lose as a result, will stay away.
MYTH NO. 9 – Diet foods help you diet
Diet foods, (such as Diet Coke or sugar-free chewing gum) are actually more unhealthy than their sugary alternatives. They affect your body much more and certainly do nothing to your overall well being.

The ten second rule is a creation of Trent Hamm (from The Simple Dollar) which is a very simple rule to help people stop spending money. You can read more about it here (http://www.thesimpledollar.com/2006/11/21/the-ten-second-rule/) but to quote Trent the rule states that “…any time you are about to spend any money at all, count to ten slowly and spend that time considering whether or not you should actually spend the money.” It is a very easy rule to implement and that is why it is so helpful to people wanting to end their spending habits.
Most people fail to stick to a diet
So how does the ten second rule relate to our fitness goals? In a later article Trent suggested using this same simple rule to help you lose weight and stop you from eating food you don’t need.We all know that if we want to look better we have to eat better. The problem with a lot of dieting/nutrition information on the internet is that it is just too complicated! People will try and stick to it for a few days then the cravings will set in and all the hard work will be lost.
The rule: Count to ten before you pick up an eat anything
With the ten second rule, before you eat anything you have to count to ten slowly and spend the time contemplating whether or not you really should eat that item of food. In theory it will stop you giving in to instant gratification and help you to easily and simply make the right choices for your diet. You can save your sweet tooth for a cheat meal and lose your body fat the rest of the time.
Next time you reach for that packet of chips, start counting!
